In 2015, West Vancouver United Church joined with other North Shore United Churches, in response to the Syrian refugee crisis. In March, 2017, our sponsored family with father, Ali, mother Birivan, and their two sons, ages 8 and 5, arrived in Vancouver! They had spent almost 5 years in a refugee camp near Erbil, Iraq. Our church was responsible for bringing the family here, providing housing, and assisting with many details relating to building a new life in Canada. The family has made a wonderful adjustment to their new home! Ali is working in construction to support his family, Birivan is attending English-language training, and the boys are thriving at school.

The family has requested our support as they wish to be reunited with family members left behind in the refugee camp near Erbil, Iraq. They include Ali’s mother and sister; and, Ali’s cousin, his wife, and their two young sons.

We invite you to attend this fundraising concert by the Sojourners (Marcus Mosely, Will Sanders, Khari McClelland and guitarist Noah Walker) to support our efforts to reunite this family.
